Today in class we discussed the train job and did a few different activities with the episode. The hardest part about this class was that since last class I have continued to watch the same show and it is hard to separate what happened in the recently watched episode from the first one. It was a good refresher course today and I think I remember the just of the episode. I now feel that we missed a lot of info in the real 1st episode of the series because we learned some things in class today that I didn’t know even though I’ve been watching every day. The character we picked to analyze in class was Zoe and the questions that I asked myself couldn’t really be answered yet by the show. The main question that I would have for her is why she would follow whatever the Captain does blindly without question. I guess it is the army mentality to do what you are told by your superiors but at the same time if something seriously went against my moral code I would stand up for what was right. I wondered whether or not Zoe would have stood up to the Captain if he had decided that the medicine should have been given to NIska instead of back to the town people. She seems like she is strong I wonder if her loyalty would over power her voicing her own opinions. Hopefully we discover the truth to this mystery in the next couple episodes.
Hey Danielle I havent watched any of the other episodes of Firefly so my comment is based on just episode two. The reason why I think she follows the captain was because of the theme loyalty, which was mention in the class discussion. She wants to remain loyal to her captain because they are a crew who works together and do not leave anybody behind. Now when you mentioned you wonder what she would have done if he decided to give the medicine to Niska, I think she would have went along with it but at the same time would have been sad and dissappointed that she didnt speak up telling him to give the medicine back to the people who needed it the most.
