The most interesting part of this episode to me was actually very near the end when Mal finds Saffron or whatever her actual name is and pins her down to find out some answers. One of the answers she gives is that we all play each other we just play different parts. (Or something along those lines) This intrigued me. Do we really all play a role to get what we want out of each other? Is anyone actually genuine and honest? Who can we trust? The entire beginning of the episode everyone thought she was a harmless country girl, obsessed with Mal, and looking to please all the men. None could have foreseen the snake she really was and in a way that may be how a lot of people today live their lives. Do I believe we all wear a mask at times to keep people from knowing what is really going on inside, definitely, do I think we should play people with our looks or wit to get what we want, definitely not. The sad thing is that it is done in our society everyday and that you have to use your own judge of character to figure out who is being real with you and who isn’t. Sadly in some aspects we have become just like the girl in this show. Using whatever we can to get ahead. Sometimes I feel that society has taught us to be too ambitious to care only about ourselves and getting ahead and in doing so we forget that we might hurt people along the way.

Recap of The Train Job
Today in class we discussed the train job and did a few different activities with the episode. The hardest part about this class was that since last class I have continued to watch the same show and it is hard to separate what happened in the recently watched episode from the first one. It was a good refresher course today and I think I remember the just of the episode. I now feel that we missed a lot of info in the real 1st episode of the series because we learned some things in class today that I didn’t know even though I’ve been watching every day. The character we picked to analyze in class was Zoe and the questions that I asked myself couldn’t really be answered yet by the show. The main question that I would have for her is why she would follow whatever the Captain does blindly without question. I guess it is the army mentality to do what you are told by your superiors but at the same time if something seriously went against my moral code I would stand up for what was right. I wondered whether or not Zoe would have stood up to the Captain if he had decided that the medicine should have been given to NIska instead of back to the town people. She seems like she is strong I wonder if her loyalty would over power her voicing her own opinions. Hopefully we discover the truth to this mystery in the next couple episodes.

Safe.
This episode of Firefly proved to me that almost every character on the ship has some secret hidden past we don’t know about. The most shocking thing about this episode to me was that of all of them the Shepherd emerges as having a secret. The most upstanding seeming person turns out to be way more powerful with the alliance then he has let on which you find out when they take him in to get medical care after his gunshot wound. Now not only am I intrigued as to find out what River’s deal is I also am now curious about what the Shepherd has done to make him valuable in the eyes of the alliance. In other news you got to see a lot more into Simon and River’s past and you find out about how their family didn’t believe River was in danger at the academy they sent her to. Sadly I got the feeling that his father knew that River was being tortured and put through hell. If this is true I don’t know but when Simon was presenting them with the letters I got the eerie feeling that the father wasn’t as dumb as he was pretending to be about the situation. We may never know but what we did find out is that they can never go back to their home and that River is apparently psychic or something of the sort. She can tell people’s past by looking at them. To see how this unfolds in the next couple episodes will be interesting.

Episode Three
Although I didn’t find this episode as exciting as the rest have been it was a more interesting look into a character we haven’t seen much of yet these past couple of episodes. Nora, the companion, gave a glimpse into ‘her world’ as I’ll call it. You also got to see her and the Captain interact more and there is, at least I believe there is, a love connection happening on board the Serenity. The other interesting thing that happened in this episode was that River actually spoke for more than thirty seconds in a scene. She wasn’t just dazed and walking around staring at the ceiling she actually spoke, and rather harshly at that, to the man who had them all captive while the Captain was in lodgings for his duel. She said something along the lines that she had a long secret and that she wouldn’t tell that man. It gave a little foreshadowing in to the future when hopefully we finally find out the evil things the alliance has done to her. Aside from that, and back to Nora, you saw that a ‘companion’ is actually what we would call and escort or maybe even a whore. I had been slightly confused on that fact until this episode. I was pretty sure that that was what it was but I also thought that since when she went into the other town and freed the Captain and Zoey that maybe it was a good thing and not the equivalent of a modern day high paid prostitute. I was very thankful she didn’t stay with the Ather and that we can see where the Captain and her relationships headed.

Firefly Take Two
My second episode of Firefly was even more intense than the first. You definitely feel like you are on their side and that you want them to succeed. The tone of the episode from where they were playing their own space version of basketball to when they entered the ship was so dramatic I was on the edge of my seat wondering what they were going to find. River is so interesting to me I can’t figure out if she is physic or what because the way she goes about knowing things before the others makes me wonder even more what the alliance did to her. But in this case she led the captain to know what had happened to the people. The worst part to me was that the boy they tried to save turned evil. I wish that they would have had time to try to help him but the captain was right , after someone sees that much evil they can’t really cope or return to themselves ever again. This was my first real encounter with any of the alliance members and I can say that I dislike them strongly already. They were ignorant when listening to the captain and almost didn’t save their sorry asses by putting him in jail for killing all those people. If the alliance was really a better government then the independents I would think they would be trying to switch the brown coats to their side instead of condemning them for believing in something else. But maybe that’s just my own personal philosophy.

The Train Job
I was very skeptical yesterday when I heard that we had to watch sci-fye for our blogs. I have never been a huge fan and even the Twilight books/ movies weren't my favorite things to watch. I was pleasently surprised today when I watched Firefly. It was funny and intriguing and definately something that I didn't really mind watching. Although the space setting still weirded me out a little bit the way the show unfolds, minus the space ship part, it could be a show about people actually on earth. The medicine being taken of a train could just as easily been a plot line for a show we watch every day that wasn't in the sci-fye category and that made me feel a little more comfortable. The part of the show that interested me the most was the part about the doctor's sister. I'm very interested to find out what exactly happened to her to make her that way and why the alliance wants to find her. The little snippet they showed didn't give much detail but I hope that in one of the episodes she explains what they did to her. The other thing i really liked is that even though they are technically the "bad guys" they really aren't. I was so glad when they didn't go through with the deal to that creepy old man and that they gave the sick people in the town back their medicine. It made you really be more able to associate with the characters and it made them all a little more relatable. All in all I really enjoyed the show. I want to try out some of the others but this is definately one I think I could watch again to see what happens.

About Me.
My name is Danielle Elizabeth Kurnick I am the daughter of Nancy and George Kurnick. I have a younger brother named Joe as well as two dogs. One lives at home, Kali, and the other lives here with me at school, Nati. I have dirty blonde hair and blue eyes, I am also 5'11 and my biggest pet peeve is when people see me and the first words out of their mouths are "Wow you're tall". I always think it's funny that they feel the need to say it out loud because I haven't been this tall almost my entire adult life and I wouldn't know it when I get out of bed in the morning. I was born an raised in Cincinnati, Ohio but both of my parents are from Cleveland and that is where most of our extended family lives. For this reason I have grown up with my neighborhood family. We are insanely close and in some ways they have taken the place of my Aunts and Uncles. Here at OSU I live in a kind of progressive household which consists of my three guy room mates, Randy, Marty, and Josh as well as myself and my friend Carrie. My favorite part about living with the guys is when they will come downstairs before they go out and ask us girls if what they're wearing is OK. It makes me laugh because sometimes their matching abilities are lacking a bit and we have to go upstairs and pick them a different shirt or different shoes to make them presentable to the rest of the world. It reminds me of my brother at home and it's kinda like we have our own little family here at OSU. That is pretty much the general just of it if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me I'm very easy to talk to and outgoing!
