A stereotype commonly associated with being a woman is that once you reach a certain age, which has progressively gotten pushed back over the years, you are in need of the support of a husband and his career. Not only are you in need of a mans support but you are mainly responsible for house duties and bearing children. Now as previously stated this stereotype has been drastically changing over the years and in this day and age it is completely normal to have both parental units carrying on steady very successful careers while managing children. But the stereotype of a woman being married after a certain age has not changed all that much. It is more common to find bachelors in their late 30's early 40's then it is to find a single woman that hasn't been divorced at least once. Sex and the City not only depicted four single women dating and living in the big apple, it showed us the lives of four beautiful women who not only had successful careers but most definitely did not need a man to take care of them in any other way then sexual satisfaction. The opening credits show Carrie walking alone on a crowded street flirting with men as they pass, implying that she does not need them to define her that it would be nice to find someone that could compliment you in a way that you could have that life partner but that it is not at all necessary to your overall well being or happiness in any way. This celebration of beauty and self confidence at any age was a new idea then but has come more into light since then.
